It could have been July or beyond, the waters of Loch Morlich glistening in the bright sunshine as people lazed about out on the beach working on the sun tan. Is April the new summer?
We set off up CairnGorm hoping to catch the impromptu cinema that had been set up in the morning to promote the Aviemore Mountain Film Festival, but morning coffee in the Cas Bar and a Lunch Stop in the Ptarmigan meant we passed the cinema coming down the Summit Path as we headed up the less direct but less hard on the legs Marquis Well path.
Some snow patches remain in the Ptarmigan Bowl along with the part demolished remains of the terrain park above the Ptarmigan Tow. Longer snowfields remain over the back with larger areas of snow further out on the Plateau towards Ben Macdui.
