CairnGorm Mountain remained StormBound on Saturday as the digging out and storm recovery work after last weeks storm continued. A storm which dumped up to 72inches of fresh snow in a little over 48hours on the upper reaches of the 'Gorm.
The West aspect of the Ptarmigan Restaurant simply blended into the snow covered mountain before the Piste Bashers started lowering the snow so that going downhill from the top of the M1 Poma doesn't involve uphill.
CairnGorm expects to open Sunday, though the wind is still gusting 50 to 60mph this evening on the tops, so potentially still delays in the morning depending on the extent of the drifting.
Only the Cas side surface lifts will run, the Funicular and the whole of the Ciste will remain closed including the Ciste Carpark, so parking will be limited to Coire Cas. Weather permitting the Daylodge Poma, Carpark Tow, Fiacaill Ridge Poma, Sheiling Trainer Tow, M1 Poma and Coire Cas Tow are scheduled.
There is high avalanche risk on most aspects to low levels, including well below the Cas Carpark. The East Lady area is very unstable for the entire sweep of the hillside and will remain closed. Keep off it for your own safety and that of others on slopes below.
