Over a foot (30cm) of level snow fell in Aviemore, up on CairnGorm it's far from level though. That however is not a bad thing at this stage of the season, it means more substantial depth is building on the key runs with natural snowfields like the White Lady and Coire Cas and suitably aligned fences catching large drifts which are pisting out to give machine packed powder.
The strong wind continued on Wednesday and limited uplift to the Funicular and Shelling Handle Tow. Some were getting off the train mid-station to ride the Carpark Run out of the worst of the wind.
Lower Slopes now have good cover with a machine made base in key heavy traffic spots which mean they should stand up to heavier weekend ski traffic better. The Fiacaill Ridge Poma uptrack was prepared on Wednesday so it looks like there will hopefully be an alternative way from the Carpark to just the Funicular this weekend.
Those going into Coire na Ciste should avoid the base area of the former Aonach Poma as part removed steel work is beginning to get drifted in and could present a significant hazard if further snow accumulates around it.
